Sailing has been my main hobby for many years. I have sailed many different types of boats from little Optimists to a 60' ex-Ocean Racer. In the early 1980's I was fortunate enough to do two Atlantic crossings on board 'Crusade'. Earlier in her career when owned by Max Aitkin (Lord Beaverbrook) was in the first 3 boats to finish in the famous Sydney-Hobart race. This was the same year (1969) as Ted Heath took the handicap win with Morning Cloud.Until the end of 2019 most of my sailing is on my own Corby 29 HenceForth based at Port Edgar on the river Forth. Early in 2020 she was sold.
As I make this update (February 2021) we are in the middle of the Covid pandemic but that has not stopped getting a part share in a Grand Soleil 37 - Grand Slam. More on the new boat when we are out of the lockdown and can get sailing again.
Over the years I have been involved in numerous sailing regattas. Sometimes as a competitor but nearly as often as part of the organising team. For over 30 years I have been involved with helping do the results for the Scottish Series Regatta (run by Clyde Cruising Club).
Clyde Cruising Club
For the biggest event of the year I team up with together with Strathclyde Raynet to provided the results service for the Scottish Series held at Tarbert on Loch Fyne each year and organised by Clyde Cruising Club. This is the second largest annual sailing event in the UK after Cowes week. An archive of results can be found here. General details are available at the CCC site.
Port Edgar Yacht Club
This is where I sailed my previous boats Whippersnapper (Hunter 707) and HenceForth. Located almost under the Forth Bridges Port Edgar Yacht Club offers both dinghy and keelboat sailing.
Clyde Yacht Clubs' Association
The Clyde Yacht Clubs' Association run a series of regattas through the season. I only help with one or two so this is not a full list of their results.
Mudhook Yacht Club
As of 2006 the Mudhook Yacht Club have run the Scottish IRC Regatta based at Kip Marina. I was asked to help with the results. The results of the 2008 event can be found here.
